HIS SOCIAL MEDIA WAS EXAMINED

As part of the investigation conducted by the İzmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office Terror and Organized Crimes Bureau, Bigül's social media accounts were examined. The investigation revealed content related to the actions and activities of the ISIS terrorist organization. During a search of his home, images of weapons training and records of a knife collection were also found.

"I AM INTERESTED IN WEAPONS"

Bigül explained in his statement that he has been interested in weapons since a young age:

"My first contact with a weapon was at the age of 7. I shot bottles with an air rifle with my father. Later, I attended a shooting course and practiced at a shooting range. I am interested in weapons."

He also stated that he watched ISIS actions on the internet and listened to speeches by the organization's leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.

"I THOUGHT ABOUT ATTACKING A BAR"

According to a report in Sabah, Bigül stated during his interrogation that he considered attacking the İzmir Fair or a bar, but changed his mind at the last moment and targeted the police station near his home. He reported that he prepared the automatic shotgun, ammunition, and homemade explosives before the attack.

Bigül expressed that he made the explosives from firecrackers and steel balls, and also packed a switchblade and first aid supplies in his bag.

"I DECIDED WHEN I LEFT THE APARTMENT"

Describing what he experienced on the day of the incident, the attacker said, "I left the house so that my father wouldn't wake up. After waiting a few minutes in the apartment, I realized I wouldn't go back. I went to the police station and fired at the police officers in the garden." He also mentioned that he threw homemade explosives during the conflict.

"I REGRET"

Bigül stated that he was shot during the conflict and later did not consciously fire, saying, "I regret, these are all I have to say."

WHAT HAPPENED?

A total of 27 suspects were detained in connection with the incident. Initially, 16 suspects, including an 18-year-old minor, were released after their statements. Later, among the remaining 11 suspects, 7 were arrested, including Eren Bigül, his father Nuhver Bigül, Iranian national Khalegh Noorıborojerdi, and Syrian nationals Mahmud Algatı, Cuma Tabbas, Fıras Seyıd Abdurrahman, and Muhammed Elhazzam. Four people, including one child, were released under judicial control.
