In Vietnam, fish ponds established under chicken coops are fed with chicken manure. This system, which reduces costs to zero, increases profits, but has raised concerns about whether the fish can be safely consumed.
An extraordinary agriculture–livestock system implemented in Vietnam has astonished onlookers. In a setup established by an entrepreneur, chicken coops are positioned directly above fish ponds. The chickens' droppings fall immediately into the water below, while the fish in the pond feed on this waste.
FEED COST ELIMINATED
According to the advocates of the system, this method completely eliminates feed costs for the fish. It is noted that the profit is doubled due to the simultaneous production of both chickens and fish in the same area. The entrepreneur aims to minimize expenses while increasing productivity with this model, which he claims is based on a natural cycle.
STARTED TO BE QUESTIONED
However, the practice has also brought serious debates. Whether the fish fed with chicken droppings are suitable for human consumption has started to be questioned on social media and among expert circles. Comments highlighting potential risks regarding food safety, hygiene, and human health have drawn attention.
EXPERTS WARN
Experts warn that while such systems may provide economic advantages, their implementation without oversight and health criteria could lead to serious problems in the long run.
