In the Finike district of Antalya, a waterspout that formed in the sea reached the shore in the evening hours, destroying greenhouses and severing power lines. The waterspout, which quickly intensified, also caused damage to buildings along the coast, plunging the district into darkness. The extent of the damage will become clear when daylight breaks.
The western districts of Antalya experienced a disaster with the tornado, storm, and heavy rainfall that occurred in the evening hours. Many roofs were blown off in Kumluca, Finike, Demre, and Kaş, greenhouses were damaged, and vehicles were harmed. The severe weather conditions brought life to a standstill in the city center.
GREENHOUSES WERE DESTROYED
The greatest damage occurred in Finike. The tornado that struck the district caused damage to greenhouses and energy transmission lines. The tornado that devastated the greenhouses also broke the glass railings of a building's balconies in a coastal area.
After the storm that began around 8:00 PM in Finike, heavy rainfall started, while the tornado that formed in the sea in Saklısu Neighborhood virtually destroyed the greenhouses where tomatoes, peppers, and zucchini were grown. The tornado, which also caused the energy transmission lines to break, plunged the region into darkness. The tornado caused the glass railings of a five-story building located near the coast to break along with the greenhouses.
THE EXTENT OF DAMAGE WILL BE REVEALED AT DAYBREAK
Kumluca Agricultural Chamber President Hidayet Kökçe, who inspected the damaged greenhouses in Mavikent Neighborhood of Kumluca district, stated, "The absence of loss of life and injuries is our greatest consolation. We will begin damage assessment work at daybreak. We wish all our farmers well."
SARISU STREAM OVERFLOWED, ROADS WERE BLOCKED
The storm and heavy rainfall also showed their effects in the city center of Antalya. In the Kepez district, the roof of a sports facility collapsed, while flooding occurred due to the rising flow of Sarısu Stream in the Konyaaltı district.
Some vehicles were stranded on roads flooded with water. Fire brigade teams took precautions in garages, basements, and parking lots at risk of flooding.
DÖŞEMEALTI WAS HIT BY HAIL
Meanwhile, hail was effective in the Döşemealtı district. Traffic teams temporarily closed the surrounding roads affected by the flood to traffic.
