A new statement has come from the White House regarding the controversial remarks made by U.S. President Donald Trump about Greenland.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated, referring to the strategic importance Trump places on Greenland, "President Trump has clearly expressed that acquiring Greenland is a national security priority for the U.S. and is vital to deter our competitors in the Arctic region."

TRUMP HAD REITERATED HIS CONTROVERSIAL REMARKS U.S. President Donald Trump had reiterated his controversial statements that Greenland is strategically very important for them and that the island should be part of the U.S. "We absolutely need Greenland," Trump said, claiming that the island, which is part of the Kingdom of Denmark, is "surrounded by Russian and Chinese ships."

Greenland's Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen also reacted to Trump's remarks, saying they were "not only wrong but also disrespectful."
