The economic war between the United States and China is escalating. Donald Trump's new 125% tariff has received a strong response from China. The Chinese government stated that if the U.S. is determined to wage an economic war, they will respond to the end. This situation indicates that the trade war between the two countries is likely to intensify further.
The trade war between the USA and China is growing with each passing day due to the announced tariffs. Trump had announced new tariffs on China in his latest statement. The first response to Trump's move came from China.
As of today, the new customs tariff imposed by US President Donald Trump has come into effect, while the Chinese Ministry of Finance announced that an additional tariff would be applied to US goods as part of a new retaliation decision. In the ministry's statement, the rate of the additional tariff on US goods was announced to be 84%. In a previous statement from China, this rate was indicated to be 34%. The ministry reported that the additional tariff on US goods would come into effect on April 10. In response to this retaliation, President Trump made a statement, raising the tariffs on China to 125%, while announcing that additional tariffs for more than 75 countries that contacted them and did not retaliate would be suspended for 90 days.
Trump stated, "Based on China's disrespect for world markets, I am immediately raising the customs tariff on China to 125%. I hope that in the near future, China will understand that the era of exploiting the USA and other countries is no longer sustainable or acceptable."
Trump indicated that they could reach an agreement on customs tariffs with all countries, including China.
90-DAY DELAY FOR MORE THAN 75 COUNTRIES
Trump also announced that the new tax rates applied to more than 75 countries that did not take retaliation decisions would be suspended for 90 days. During this period, countries will only pay the basic tariff of 10%.
TRUMP: WE ARE EARNING 2 BILLION DOLLARS
In a program at the White House attended by coal miners, Trump stated, "You often hear about the customs tariffs, and thanks to these tariffs, we are earning almost 2 billion dollars every day. Yes, 2 billion dollars a day, and our business is going very well, really very well."
NEW MESSAGES TO CHINA
The US President said, "Chinese President Xi is a proud man. I know him very well. They want to make a deal, but they don't exactly know how to do it, but they will understand during the process of solving this."
Trump noted that many countries, including China, want to make a customs agreement with the USA, stating, "Nothing is finished yet; there is tremendous demand from many countries, including China. China also wants to make a deal. We can also make an agreement with the EU on customs, and as long as it is fair, we can make agreements with everyone."
In response to a question about why the customs tariff application for about 75 countries was suspended for 90 days, Trump replied, "People were stepping a bit outside the line; they were a little excited and scared because we have a big job to do."
FIRST RESPONSE TO 125% CUSTOMS TARIFF FROM CHINA
In a statement from the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it was stated: "If the USA is determined to conduct a tariff war and trade war, China will respond to the end. There will be no winner in a trade war; protectionism is a one-way street. We will never accept the USA's excessive pressure and bullying."
