The teams of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change imposed a fine of 1 million 678 thousand liras on the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality, which was found to have discharged wastewater into Lake Mogan within the boundaries of the Special Environmental Protection Area through a rainwater line.

According to the statement made by the Ministry, teams from the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, evaluating the received report, detected that wastewater was being discharged into Lake Mogan via a rainwater line next to the tennis courts of Mogan Park, which is affiliated with the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality.

THEY DISCHARGED WASTEWATER INTO THE LAKE

As a result of the investigation, it was determined that wastewater generated during the construction of a bridge in Hacılar District of Gölbaşı District was connected to the rainwater line without treatment and discharged into Lake Mogan.

RECORD FINE FOR ANKARA METROPOLITAN MUNICIPALITY

Because the lake is a Special Environmental Protection Zone, a penalty of 2 times the standard was applied to Ankara Metropolitan Municipality, resulting in an administrative fine of 1 million 678 thousand lira. A criminal complaint was filed against those responsible with the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.

On the other hand, Lake Mogan, which had been in the spotlight in previous years due to pollution and bad odors, took a breath with the "Lake Mogan Bottom Sludge Cleaning Project" carried out by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change and the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure. A total of 3 million 500 thousand cubic meters of bottom sludge were removed from the lake.

Ministry teams continue their inspections of the lake within the boundaries of the Special Environmental Protection Zone.

STATEMENT FROM THE MUNICIPALITY

Meanwhile, in a statement made by Ankara Metropolitan Municipality regarding the issue, the following expressions were included: "It has become necessary to make a statement in order to properly inform the public regarding the imposition of an environmental fine on ASKI General Directorate by the Ankara Directorate of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change on the grounds that wastewater was discharged into Lake Mogan.

In the said region, within the scope of the infrastructure manufacturing works carried out by our ASKI General Directorate, efforts continue to renew the rainwater infrastructure lines whose capacity has become insufficient.

"NO DISCHARGE INTO LAKE MOGAN"

During the said manufacturing process, the rainwater infrastructure was temporarily discharged; after the inspections carried out by the Provincial Directorate teams, the necessary repairs and arrangements were promptly completed. Throughout the process, the relevant institution was regularly informed. Currently, there is no discharge into Lake Mogan in any way. Respectfully announced to the public."
