An important victory has been achieved in the war against drug cartels: 10 tons of cocaine have been burned.
In the largest drug operation ever seized in the Dominican Republic in the Caribbean, approximately $254 million worth of cocaine was found hidden in a banana shipment at the main port of the capital, Santo Domingo. Ten people connected to the drugs, which were intended to be sent to Belgium, were arrested.
Officials in white clothing burned hundreds of drug packages after displaying them.
In August, the British warship HMS Trent also seized $50 million worth of cocaine in a daring operation in the Caribbean Sea. Footage shows HMS Trent approaching a speedboat and seizing drugs 120 nautical miles south of the Dominican Republic.
The Royal Navy collected the drugs that the smugglers attempted to throw into the sea and brought three smugglers aboard with their hands in the air. The smugglers were later handed over to U.S. authorities.
The British Navy announced that this operation is HMS Trent's sixth drug operation in 2024.
