In the deepening leadership crisis within the CHP following the 'absolute nullity' decision, Özgür Özel's faction's call for an extraordinary convention on July 12, 2026, did not receive full support from the parliamentary group. Out of the party's total 138 deputies, 111 signed the joint declaration, while 27 refused to sign, aligning themselves with Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu.
111 members of the 28th term of the Republican People's Party issued a joint declaration calling for an extraordinary congress.
“HOLD AN EXTRAORDINARY CONGRESS ON JULY 12”
In the declaration, which also bears the signature of Özgür Özel, who was temporarily removed from his position as CHP Chairman by a 'nullity' decision, it was stated that the shaping of the party through court decisions is not accepted, and it was emphasized that the power to decide the direction and administration of the CHP lies with the delegates. Additionally, it was noted that if a congress is not held by July 25, 2026, the party risks not being able to participate in elections, and a call was made to hold an extraordinary congress on July 12, 2026.
27 DEPUTIES DID NOT SIGN
Meanwhile, in the CHP, which has 138 deputies in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM), it was noteworthy that 27 deputies did not sign the declaration, thus displaying a stance in favor of Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, who returned to the position of CHP Chairman.
