Following the torrential rains in May, 33 houses were evacuated as a precautionary measure in Giresun's Bulancak district due to landslides. AFAD teams are continuing their LIDAR-supported work in the area.

Following the rainfalls that were effective in the last days of May in the Bulancak district of Giresun, 33 houses identified as being at risk due to subsequent landslides were evacuated as a precaution. The landslides that occurred after the heavy downpours effective between May 18-29 in Giresun caused unease in the region. In a written statement by the Giresun Governorship, it was stated that landslides and rockfall events related to excessive rainfall occurred in the city center and some districts, villages, and neighborhoods. The statement indicated that disruptions in transportation and road closures occurred in some areas, and many houses were also left at risk. It was noted that AFAD teams encountered serious risk findings in the Bulancak district as a result of field inspections.

MAJORITY OF THE EVACUEES PLACED WITH RELATIVES

It was stated that 16 houses were evacuated as a precaution due to a circular sliding type landslide affecting an area of approximately 50 thousand square meters in the Bayındır village of Bulancak district, 11 houses due to a landslide in the Merkez neighborhood of Kovanlık town, and 6 houses in the Soğuksu neighborhood. Officials announced that a total of 33 houses were evacuated to ensure the life and property safety of citizens against the risk of landslides. While the residents were directed to safe areas with the coordination of the teams, it was learned that most of the evacuees were placed with their relatives.

LIDAR-SUPPORTED STUDIES CONTINUE

Meanwhile, LIDAR-supported drone measurement and survey studies continue in and around the Kovanlık town for a detailed assessment of the risk situation in the region; it was stated that the Giresun AFAD Provincial Directorate teams continue field observations and technical inspections in line with reports from citizens, and necessary measures will continue to be taken according to developments.
