Of the 19 suspects detained in operations carried out within the scope of the corruption investigation targeting Esenyurt Municipality, 9, including Deputy Mayor Yusuf Ulutaş, were arrested, while 10 were released under judicial control measures.
Within the scope of investigations conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office into allegations that some tenders at Esenyurt Municipality were rigged and that, in this context, bribes were taken from contractors, the police procedures of 17 suspects who were detained, including Deputy Mayor Yusuf Ulutaş, have been completed.
19 SUSPECTS REFERRED TO THE COURTHOUSE The suspects—Esenyurt Deputy Mayor Yusuf Ulutaş, former Esenyurt Deputy Mayor Ümit Ünal, Esenyurt Municipality Head of Neighborhood Affairs Ziya Seymen, Head of Parks and Gardens İbrahim Doğancıoğlu and Anıl Alioğlu working there, municipal employee Edil Kesik, as well as other suspects including company owners and employees Tuba Ulutaş Şenyürek, Adnan Şenocak, Doğan Can Göksel, Cemalettin Çağlayan, Harun Berber, Salih Yılmaz, Erhan Toprak, Orhan Yıldırım, Ziya Köklü, Halil Yılmaz and Emrah Koşunalp—were referred to the Istanbul Justice Palace in Çağlayan after a medical examination.
With the detention of Eyüp Mücahit Gülmez and Kamil Karaduman, who were being sought as part of the investigation, the number of suspects rose to 19. Gülmez and Karaduman were also taken to the courthouse after their police procedures.
9 SUSPECTS SENT TO PRISON Of the suspects whose statements were taken at the prosecutor's office, Ulutaş, Doğancıoğlu, Şenyürek, Göksel, Çağlayan, Berber, Yılmaz, Koşunalp, Toprak and Köklü were referred to the on-duty magistrate judge with a request for arrest, while Ünal, Seymen, Alioğlu, Kesik, Şenocak, Yıldırım, Yılmaz, Gülmez and Karaduman were referred to the on-duty magistrate judge with a request for the application of judicial control measures.
Nine of the suspects, including Ulutaş, were remanded in custody, while it was decided that 10 would be released with judicial control measures applied.
Deputy Mayor Yusuf Ulutaş WHAT HAPPENED? In a statement made by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was reported that within the scope of investigations conducted into allegations that some tenders at Esenyurt Municipality were rigged and that, in this context, bribes were taken from contractors, a detention order was issued for 19 suspects alleged to have been involved in these acts.
The statement noted that 17 suspects were detained in an operation carried out by teams of the Istanbul Financial Crimes Department, and that search efforts for 2 suspects were continuing.
As part of the operation, a search was conducted at the home of Esenyurt Deputy Mayor Yusuf Ulutaş, who was detained by teams of the Istanbul Police Department's Financial Crimes Branch.
During the search, a large amount of money, foreign currency, jewelry, and high-value watches were seized from a safe in the house.
