In Tokat, while approximately 1,400 people applied to hospitals with complaints of nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain, it was reported that 15 people were receiving inpatient treatment. Authorities warned citizens to boil water before consuming it until the analysis results of the latest samples taken from drinking water are finalized.

In the city center of Tokat, hospitals experienced crowding due to complaints of nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain that began in the evening hours the previous day.

NUMBER OF PATIENTS REACHED 1,400

After complaints first seen in children, as adults also applied to health institutions, the number of patients reached approximately 1,300 to 1,400. Following the developments, Tokat Mayor Mehmet Kemal Yazıcıoğlu and Head of Tokat Public Health Services Dr. İhsan Canbolat held a press conference and informed citizens.

“NO ADVERSE FINDING WAS DETECTED IN WATER SAMPLES”

Tokat Mayor Yazıcıoğlu, noting that drinking water throughout the city is regularly inspected by Provincial Health Directorate teams, said, "Our drinking water in Tokat is always inspected by Provincial Health Directorate teams. Drinking water samples taken from all over our city are regularly analyzed. In observational checks conducted on drinking water, no odor or color change has been encountered. Even during periods of heavy rainfall, no change in drinking water quality has been detected. In the latest test results conducted on October 5, 2026, no adverse finding was encountered. Until the test results are announced, I kindly request our citizens to be cautious temporarily and to boil and use the water. During this period, there may be a slight odor in drinking water due to chlorination. I kindly request our citizens to follow our official institutions for accurate information," he said.

"15 OF OUR PATIENTS ARE RECEIVING INPATIENT TREATMENT"

Head of Tokat Public Health Services Dr. İhsan Canbolat said that applications to hospitals first began among children, and later similar complaints were seen in adults. Canbolat said, "Initially, our child patients applied to us with complaints of nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. Later, similar complaints were seen in our adult patients. We currently have 15 patients receiving inpatient treatment. All of them are in good general health. In applications that began around 21:00 last night, the total number is around 1,300 to 1,400. However, since the process continues, these numbers may vary," he said.

INVESTIGATIONS REGARDING DRINKING WATER CONTINUE

Authorities reported that investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the health complaints. While the latest analysis results regarding drinking water have not yet been finalized, citizens were asked to boil tap water for consumption as a precaution and to follow announcements from official institutions.
