The 7th Investigation Court of Syria has issued an in absentia arrest warrant for former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. The charges against Assad include intentional murder, torture resulting in death, and deprivation of liberty.
The judge of the 7th Investigation Court of Syria, Tevfik al-Ali, issued an in absentia arrest warrant against former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad regarding the events that took place in the city of Daraa in 2011.
An in absentia arrest warrant has been issued against former President Bashar al-Assad in Syria. According to Judge Tevfik al-Ali's statement, there are serious charges against Assad.
THERE ARE CHARGES OF TORTURE AND INTENTIONAL KILLING
The charges include intentional homicide, torture resulting in death, and deprivation of liberty.
Judge al-Ali stated, "We issued the arrest warrant based on the lawsuit filed by the relatives of those who lost their lives in Daraa on November 23, 2011. The case is of a nature that can be widely disseminated internationally through Interpol and can also be followed up externally. The decision paves the way for the prosecution of those responsible for systematic violations. The legal process will continue until all perpetrators of the crimes committed by the regime are reached."
FRENCH COURTS HAD ALSO ISSUED ARREST WARRANTS
Moreover, in recent weeks, French courts had also issued 7 arrest warrants against former high-ranking officials of the Syrian regime, including former President Assad, in connection with an attack that bombed a press center in Homs province in 2012, resulting in the deaths of two journalists.
