Under the new regulation prepared for the driver's license system, it is aimed to conduct health checks and document renewal procedures more frequently for elderly drivers.
While preparations for a new regulation regarding the driving license system in Turkey continue, it is planned to tighten health checks, especially for elderly drivers. According to the prepared regulation, drivers over the age of 65 will have to renew their licenses by undergoing health checks at certain intervals.
DRIVERS OVER 65 WILL RENEW EVERY 3 YEARS, OVER 80 EVERY 2 YEARS
With the new application, drivers over the age of 65 will renew their licenses by obtaining a health report every 3 years, and drivers over the age of 80 every 2 years.
PURPOSE IS TRAFFIC SAFETY
It is stated that the main goal of the regulation is to increase the safety of both drivers and other citizens in traffic. It is evaluated that changes in reflexes, vision, and health conditions that may occur especially with advancing age can increase traffic risk. Officials state that the regulation does not mean the complete withdrawal of elderly drivers from traffic, but aims to regularly monitor their health status.
COMMERCIAL VEHICLE DRIVERS NEW AGE LIMIT ON THE AGENDA
Within the scope of the Highway Transportation Regulation, new practices regarding age criteria for commercial vehicle drivers also draw attention. According to current rules, the requirement for drivers of large buses to be at least 26 years old continues, while commercial vehicle drivers must not exceed the determined upper age limit. It is stated that the commercial vehicle usage limit, previously raised to 69 years with a temporary regulation, will be reevaluated.
PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCE REQUIREMENT ALSO ON THE AGENDA
With the new regulation, commercial vehicle drivers will be required to carry not only age criteria but also professional competence documents. This practice aims to increase road safety standards and provide stricter control in commercial transportation.
THOSE WITHOUT A HEALTH REPORT WILL NOT BE ABLE TO RENEW
In the new system, drivers in the determined age group will not be able to complete their license renewal procedures if they do not undergo health checks on time. In the coming days, related institutions are expected to make new announcements regarding the details of the application. Experts warn that citizens should not delay their health checks to avoid grievances.
