In the Mexican state of Veracruz, federal deputy Zenyazen Escobar was found dead from a gunshot wound in his parked vehicle on the roadside. Due to the absence of any visible signs on the vehicle indicating an external attack, the possibility of homicide is considered weak, while the possibility that Escobar may have taken his own life is being examined. Authorities have stated that no definitive conclusion has yet been reached as to whether the death was a suicide or a homicide.

While it has not yet been clarified whether Escobar's death was a homicide or a suicide, a large-scale investigation has been launched into the incident.
"IT IS NOT POSSIBLE FOR US TO PROPOSE A DEFINITIVE HYPOTHESIS AT THIS STAGE"
Ricardo Ahued, General Secretary of the Veracruz State Government, confirmed at a press conference that Escobar died inside his vehicle and that a firearm was found next to him.
Ahued stated that a definitive assessment cannot be made at this stage as to whether the incident was a homicide or suicide, saying, "The death occurred from a firearm; it is not possible for us to propose a definitive hypothesis at this stage."
THE POSSIBILITY OF AN EXTERNAL ATTACK IS CONSIDERED WEAK
Officials announced that, in preliminary examinations, the possibility of an external attack on Escobar's vehicle was assessed as low.
Ahued noted that the vehicle was found on the side of the road and that no signs of intense conflict or attack were found on it, stating, "Because the vehicle was stopped on the side of the road and there are no signs of any conflict or intense attack on it, we assess that this was not an external attack."
In images reflected in the local press, it was shared that Escobar was in the driver's seat and that the firearm was between his legs.
THE PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE LAUNCHED AN INVESTIGATION
Following the incident, a comprehensive investigation was launched by the Veracruz state prosecutor's office. It was stated that teams are evaluating all possibilities regarding the deputy's death.
Officials reported that no definitive conclusion will be reached regarding the manner of Escobar's death until the investigation is completed.
HE HAD BECOME A DEPUTY IN SEPTEMBER 2024
Zenyazen Escobar, who worked as a teacher and served as a union leader before entering politics, had begun his duties in Mexico's Chamber of Deputies in September 2024.
The state of Veracruz, where Escobar lost his life, is known as one of Mexico's regions with intense violent incidents due to the activities of drug cartels and organized crime groups.
