In the Yakutiye district of Erzurum, 71-year-old disabled dialysis patient Hacer Tikankuş lost her life in a fire that broke out in an apartment on the first floor of a six-story building, believed to have started from an electric heater. While her husband Feramuz Tikankuş lamented, Governor Aydın Baruş consoled the couple's son, who works as a guard.

Upon receiving news of his wife's death, her husband Feramuz Tikankuş (78) cried out in grief and shed tears. Their son, Yakup Tikankuş, who works as a watchman at the Gölbaşı Police Station, was comforted by Erzurum Governor Aydın Baruş.

A fire broke out at around 22:40 yesterday in a flat on the first floor of a six-story building at Kurtuluş Neighborhood, Kavak TOKİ Houses. According to initial assessments, the fire is believed to have been caused by an electric heater. During the fire, Feramuz Tikankuş, who was at home, tried to extinguish the flames but failed. Unable to reach his disabled dialysis patient wife, Hacer Tikankuş, due to heavy smoke, Feramuz Tikankuş went outside and reported the situation to the 112 Emergency Call Center.

Upon the notification, numerous fire brigade, health, and police teams were dispatched to the scene. The fire was brought under control and extinguished by the teams. After the fire, health teams entering the flat determined that Hacer Tikankuş had died. Upon hearing the news of his wife's death, Feramuz Tikankuş cried out in grief and shed tears. He was later taken to the hospital by ambulance.

GOVERNOR COMFORTED THE COUPLE'S WATCHMAN SON

Yakup Tikankuş, the couple's son who works as a watchman at the Gölbaşı Police Station, suffered a nervous breakdown when he learned of his mother's death upon arriving at the scene. Erzurum Governor Aydın Baruş, who was conducting inspections at the scene, comforted Yakup Tikankuş.

Speaking after his inspections, Governor Baruş said, 'Today, around 22:42, a report of a fire in a residence was received by the 112 Emergency Call Center. In the block we are currently in front of, thick smoke is visible on the first floor. Our fire brigade arrived here at 22:47 and began intervention. During the incident, an elderly couple was staying here with his wife. His wife, a dialysis patient, remained inside. Due to heavy smoke, he tried to extinguish the fire but failed. They then reported it to the 112 Emergency Call Center. After our fire brigade began emergency intervention and entered, they unfortunately saw that our citizen Hacer Tikankuş, born in 1955, had died in the room they were staying in. Her husband is currently in shock in the ambulance, but we can say his condition is good. We are saddened by the loss of our citizen Hacer Tikankuş. An investigation is underway regarding the cause of the incident. There is an electric heater inside. According to initial findings, it is believed it may have originated from that. However, the real cause will be determined after the investigation by the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.'

BODY SENT FOR AUTOPSY

Hacer Tikankuş's body was taken to the morgue of the Forensic Medicine Institute for autopsy after the prosecutor's examinations.

An investigation has been launched into the incident.
