As evaluations regarding the 2027 increase continue ahead of the Minimum Wage Determination Commission's December meetings, Yeni Şafak writer and economist Yusuf Dinç, known for his closeness to the government, stated that with a 30 percent increase based on past inflation, the net minimum wage could reach 36,498 TL.
As millions of employees await the 2027 minimum wage increase, with the Minimum Wage Determination Commission expected to convene in December, Yeni Şafak columnist Yusuf Dinç shared a calculation that breaks the mold. Pointing out that the high cost of living in Turkey is one of the main problems and that updates based solely on future inflation expectations remain insufficient, Dinç emphasized that past inflation should be taken as the basis for the increase rate.
"UPDATING WITH FUTURE INFLATION REMAINS INSUFFICIENT"
Stating that living and subsistence conditions should be directly taken into account in the process of determining the minimum wage, Yusuf Dinç noted that expectation-based wage increases have resulted against employees due to unmet targets. Dinç stated that taking the realized past inflation rate into account would be a fairer approach.
THE NET 36,498 TL FORMULA WITH A 30% INCREASE
According to the calculation Dinç made in line with past inflation expectations, under a 30 percent increase scenario, the net minimum wage will rise to 36,498 TL. Currently, throughout 2026, the minimum wage is applied as a monthly gross of 33,030 TL and a net of 28,075 TL 50 kuruş.
THE OFFICIAL PROCESS BEGINS IN DECEMBER
The calendar for the new minimum wage that will be valid in 2027 has not yet officially begun. The Minimum Wage Determination Commission, composed of representatives of workers, employers, and the government, is expected to hold its first meeting within December and start negotiations.
