The new administration of Syria has canceled the investment agreement signed with Russia in 2019, which granted Moscow the operation of the Tartus Port for 49 years.

The Syria-based Al Watan newspaper announced that the Tartus Port will no longer be operated by Russia.
"ALL REVENUES GENERATED FROM THE PORT WILL BE USED IN LINE WITH SYRIA'S INTERESTS"
The report stated, "The investment agreement for Tartus Port has been canceled, which was signed with the Russian company. All revenues generated from port activities will be used in line with the interests of the Syrian state," said a customs official quoted in the report, noting that work is currently underway to restructure the port and efforts are ongoing to ensure it operates at full capacity again.
IT HAD BEEN LEFT TO RUSSIA FOR 49 YEARS
With an agreement signed in 2019 between Russia and the ousted Bashar al-Assad regime, the operation of Tartus Port had been left to Moscow for 49 years.
