According to the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, lawyer Fırat Epözdemir, a member of the Istanbul Bar Association Board, was detained as part of efforts to uncover the activities and members of the PKK/KCK terrorist organization. The reason for Epözdemir's detention was stated as "being a member of an armed terrorist organization."
