Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey Numan Kurtulmuş held a joint press conference in Ankara with President of the Chamber of Deputies of Luxembourg Claude Wiseler. Kurtulmuş said that the “Terror-Free Turkey” process is progressing “smoothly.” He stated that the Monitoring Committee envisaged by the law will be established in Parliament. He emphasized that those who obtained unfair gains in the fund investigation must be held accountable. He also stated that the Turkey-Libya maritime jurisdiction areas agreement was not made against any third country.

Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye Numan Kurtulmuş met with Claude Wiseler, President of Luxembourg’s Chamber of Deputies, who came to Türkiye for official contacts. At the joint press conference held after the meeting, Kurtulmuş touched on many issues, from the Terror-Free Türkiye process to the fund investigation and from the Libya agreement to regional developments, and gave important messages.

“LUXEMBOURG IS A FRIENDLY COUNTRY THAT SUPPORTS OUR EU MEMBERSHIP PROCESS”

Kurtulmuş said that he and Wiseler discussed both bilateral relations and developments in the region and in Europe. Kurtulmuş said, “Luxembourg is one of the friendly European countries that has supported Türkiye’s European Union membership process from the very beginning.” He stated that during the meeting they expressed that “some double standards and ill-intentioned approaches toward Türkiye cannot be accepted either.”

“THE PATH TO A SOLUTION IS THROUGH DIPLOMACY”

Emphasizing that Türkiye sees the solution to all problems in the region primarily at the diplomacy table, Kurtulmuş argued that the war launched by the US and Israel against Iran had “already turned into an endless tension.” It was stated that the Palestinian issue and Israel’s stance were also discussed in the meeting. Kurtulmuş said they welcomed Luxembourg’s recognition of the State of Palestine.

“EVERYTHING IS PROGRESSING SMOOTHLY”

Also answering questions about the Terror-Free Türkiye process, Kurtulmuş said, “The Monitoring Committee required by law will be established in the Assembly. In the coming days, this issue will take concrete shape. Everything is progressing smoothly.” Kurtulmuş stated that everyone must fulfill their responsibilities and called on no one to attempt to “assign homework to another.”

“A STRONG STEP FOR BUILDING A TERROR-FREE REGION”

Emphasizing that the process would also contribute to regional peace, Kurtulmuş said, “With the realization of a Terror-Free Türkiye, a very strong step will be taken to build a terror-free region as well.” Kurtulmuş also said that the Terror-Free Türkiye issue is being followed by Western friends “more carefully and more meticulously” than it is in Türkiye.

“WHOEVER COMMITTED THEFT MUST BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE”

In response to a question about the fund investigation, Kurtulmuş said, “Whoever obtained unjust gains regarding the fund, whoever acted shamelessly and committed theft, all of them must be held accountable.” He stated that this matter must be pursued to the end.

“THE LIBYA AGREEMENT IS NOT DIRECTED AGAINST A THIRD COUNTRY”

Kurtulmuş also spoke about the memorandum of understanding on maritime jurisdiction areas approved by Libya’s Chamber of Deputies. Kurtulmuş said, “This agreement is not an agreement made against any third country.” He stated that the agreement would protect the sovereign rights of Türkiye and Libya in their maritime jurisdiction areas in the Mediterranean.

LUXEMBOURG DELEGATION TO MEET WITH COMMISSIONS

The Luxembourg delegation led by Wiseler is planned to meet with the chairs and members of the Turkish Grand National Assembly’s National Defense and Foreign Affairs committees. The delegation will also meet with representatives of political parties in the Parliament tomorrow.
