Changes are planned for the controversial topics of offside and VAR rules in football. The International Football Association Board (IFAB) will hold a meeting on March 1 in Glasgow, Scotland, to discuss four critical decisions. Among these decisions are a new update to the offside rule and the announcement of VAR decisions throughout the stadium.
A new addition is coming to the offside rule, which is one of the most debated topics in football. Meanwhile, IFAB has also taken action to bring innovations regarding VAR.
NEW RULES ARE COMING
The International Football Association Board (IFAB) will hold a meeting on March 1st in Glasgow, Scotland, to discuss the new rule.
According to a report by Fanatik, FIFA Development Director Arsene Wenger had suggested that the World Cup be held every two years, but this proposal was not accepted. In addition, the French coach had made a suggestion regarding offside. According to Wenger's proposal, if the attacking player's body is completely ahead of the last defender, an offside should be called.
IFAB will discuss this issue on March 1st and make a decision. Thus, centimeter-level offsides will be eliminated. Additionally, the announcement of VAR decisions by referees to the entire stadium will also be discussed.
TIME-STOP OPTION
In addition to these two rules, two more rules will be discussed. The third rule on the agenda is the introduction of the Challenger system. Currently, only referees have the authority to use VAR. With the Challenger rule, coaches, like tennis players, may have the option to request a VAR review for a controversial action they believe should be examined.
Finally, the fourth point under consideration will be the possible introduction of the time-stop option. For example, similar to rugby, referees may decide to stop the match clock in the event of a contentious situation or a serious injury.
