An artillery shell, assessed to be a mortar round, was found during excavation work by natural gas teams in Eyüpsultan.
IGDAS teams conducting natural gas excavation work in Eyupsultan found a munition evaluated to be a mortar shell. After police arrived at the scene and conducted inspections, the munition was taken into custody.
MORTAR SHELL FOUND DURING EXCAVATION
IGDAS teams carrying out excavation work on 1. Guven Street in Aksemsettin Neighborhood found a munition buried underground. Following the notification, police teams were dispatched to the scene.
TAKEN INTO CUSTODY
After taking security measures in the area and conducting inspections at the scene for a while, the teams took the munition, evaluated as a mortar shell, into custody.
Neighborhood resident Cetin Uzun said that during the natural gas work, IGDAS teams encountered a metal piece and became suspicious of the situation.
Uzun stated, "It resembled a bomb in appearance. Therefore, they notified the police teams. They say it is an explosive similar to a mortar shell dating back to ancient times. Disposal teams came, disposed of it, and took it away. No negative incident has occurred so far."
