A religious celebration held in Santa María Canchesdá, in the municipality of Temascalcingo in central Mexico, turned into a horrific tragedy. During the events held in honor of Nuestra Señora de la Luz, a violent explosion occurred in the area where pyrotechnic materials were stored.
HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE WERE WAITING FOR THE FIREWORKS SHOW
Hundreds of people were present in the area at the time of the incident. The explosion happened as participants were waiting for the fireworks display, which was part of the religious celebrations. The violent blast caused the walls of some structures around the church to collapse.
The area was quickly covered in debris and smoke, and it was reported that some people were trapped under the collapsed sections. Upon the alert, numerous health, firefighting, civil defense, and security teams were dispatched to the area.
10 PEOPLE LOST THEIR LIVES, 64 WERE INJURED

PYROTECHNIC MATERIALS WERE KEPT IN A STORAGE ROOM
According to the initial findings of authorities, the explosion occurred when pyrotechnic materials stored in a section of the church used as a warehouse detonated. The Attorney General's Office of the State of Mexico has launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the explosion.
After other pyrotechnic materials were found at the scene, expert teams inspected the area due to the risk of a second explosion and began work to safely neutralize the remaining materials.
