In Florida's Treasure Coast region, over 1,000 silver coins worth $1 million and 5 gold coins were recovered from a ship belonging to the Spanish Treasure Fleet that sank in a hurricane in 1715. The coins carry historical pieces from the Golden Age of the Spanish Empire.

A large treasure was uncovered from a ship belonging to the Spanish Treasure Fleet that sank in a hurricane off Florida's Treasure Coast in 1715. The salvage operations revealed over 1,000 silver coins ("Reales") and 5 gold coins ("Escudos") with a total value of 1 million dollars, along with other gold artifacts.

Each coin is a historical piece that carries the story of the people who lived, worked, and set sail during the Golden Age of the Spanish Empire. It is both rare and extraordinary to recover such a large number of coins in a single salvage operation.

Experts say that the artifacts likely belonged to the same chest and fell into the sea during the ship's disintegration. Most of the coins were minted in Spanish colonies such as Mexico, Peru, and Bolivia, and bear readable dates and mint marks.

Sal Guttuso, the operations director of Queens Jewels, commented on the discovery:

"Each find offers a new piece of the human story of the 1715 fleet. Preserving and studying these artifacts is invaluable for future generations to understand this part of our history."

The discovery was made by Captain Levin Shavers and his team during the "2025 Summer Salvage Season" aboard the M/V Just Right. Captain Shavers expressed the emotion of the discovery as follows:

"When you think you've lost something so valuable, you accept that it may never be found again. Then suddenly, it appears before you, and it's an indescribable joy."

Florida's Treasure Coast has been a region of great interest for treasure hunters and marine archaeologists for years. The work done here is of great historical and economic significance, bringing the mysteries of the past into the present.
