Turkey is entering the influence of a new rainy weather system. The air temperature, which has been above seasonal norms for about a week, is giving way to snow. The meteorology department announced that mixed rain and snow is expected in Ankara on Tuesday, and snowfall is anticipated in Istanbul on Wednesday. The snowfall in Istanbul will be particularly effective in the districts of Beykoz, Çekmeköy, Sancaktepe, Ümraniye, Başakşehir, and Sarıyer.
According to the forecasts obtained from the General Directorate of Meteorology, the northern, inland, and western parts of the country will be partly and very cloudy. After the evening hours, rain is expected in the Marmara, Black Sea, and the surrounding areas of Samsun, Kütahya, the northern parts of İzmir, and the western districts of Ordu. Starting from the night hours, mixed rain and snow are expected in the inland areas of the Western Black Sea and around Kütahya, while other places will be slightly cloudy and clear. Frost and freezing, along with mist and local fog, are expected in the inland and eastern regions during the morning and night hours. There is a risk of avalanche in the high areas of the inner parts of the Eastern Black Sea and the high and steep slopes of Eastern Anatolia.
TEMPERATURES WILL DROP RAPIDLY
Turkey has come under the influence of a new rainy weather system coming from Russia. Air temperatures, which have been above seasonal norms, are expected to show a sharp decline throughout the week. Meteorology experts state that temperatures will decrease by 6 to 12 degrees, making winter conditions felt. While heavy snowfall is expected in provinces such as Istanbul, Ankara, Bursa, Bolu, and Kastamonu, warnings have been issued for citizens to be cautious.

According to the weekly weather forecast report published by the Disaster Affairs Department of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (AKOM), a cold air wave originating from Siberia is affecting Istanbul. Temperatures are expected to drop starting from Tuesday evening, with snowfall anticipated on Wednesday and Thursday.
According to the statement from AKOM, temperatures starting around 7°C on Monday, February 3, 2025, will rise to 12°C by noon. However, they are expected to drop again in the evening and night hours, reaching around 8°C. During the day, the wind is expected to blow moderately from the south, while a strong north wind is anticipated in the evening. The relative humidity is expected to range between 65-90%, with precipitation amounts estimated to be between 2 to 5 kg/m².
According to AKOM's meteorological assessment, a large part of the country, especially Istanbul, is entering the influence of the cold air wave from Siberia. It is stated that temperatures will drop by 6-8°C starting from the evening hours of Tuesday (February 4), increasing the impact of winter conditions. On Wednesday and Thursday, there is a possibility of mixed rain and snow in Istanbul.
In the coming days, temperatures are expected to drop to 4-6°C below seasonal norms, ranging between 1-3°C. Warnings have been issued regarding the possibility of frost and freezing events in high areas, emphasizing that drivers and citizens should be cautious.
WHICH DISTRICTS IN ISTANBUL WILL SEE SNOW?
According to the data from the 1st Regional Directorate of Meteorology, snow is expected in the districts of Arnavutköy, Ataşehir, Başakşehir, Beykoz, Beylikdüzü, Çatalca, Çekmeköy, Eyüp, Esenyurt, Gaziosmanpaşa, Kağıthane, Sancaktepe, Sarıyer, Şile, Silivri, Şişli, Sultangazi, and Ümraniye; while mixed rain and snow will occur in the other 21 districts.
NTV Meteorology Editor Dilek Çalışkan, in her weather forecast, stated, "The felt temperature in Istanbul will be 1 degree on Tuesday, -2 on Wednesday, and -4 on Thursday. There will be rain in Istanbul this evening, and it will start to turn into sleet tomorrow evening. On Wednesday, there will be a precipitation between sleet and snow."
