With the approach of the month of Ramadan, the amount of fitra for this year has also been determined. The Religious Affairs Administration's High Board of Religious Affairs has set the fitra amount at 180 TL for the period from the month of Ramadan in 2025 to the month of Ramadan in 2026.

In a meeting chaired by the Board President Abdurrahman Haçkalı, the determination of the fitra amount for the Ramadan of 2025 was discussed.

In a statement made by the Religious Affairs Administration, it was noted: "Considering the relevant hadiths, the current socio-economic living conditions, and a person's daily food needs, the fitra amount in our country has been determined as 180 lira from the month of Ramadan in 2025 to the month of Ramadan in 2026. The amount determined as fitra can be given in cash or in kind as food items. This amount is also the daily compensation for fasting. In addition, each liable person can give an amount equivalent to their daily food expenses as fitra."

WHAT IS FITRA?

Muslims who fast during the month of Ramadan give fitra to fulfill both their spiritual and social responsibilities. Fitra is one of the important acts of worship in Islam, like zakat, and refers to the financial assistance given to those in need before the Eid al-Fitr. This act aims to reduce the differences between the rich and the poor and to ensure social justice. Giving fitra is obligatory for every liable Muslim and must be given before sunrise on the first day of Eid al-Fitr.

WHOM IS FITRA GIVEN TO?

Fitra is primarily a form of assistance that should be given to the poor and needy in Islam. Like zakat, fitra is also subject to a specific order. Priority is given to the poor, the needy, debtors, and stranded travelers. The purpose of this distribution is to ensure justice in society and to assist those in need. Fitra can be given to a single person or distributed among several poor individuals. However, it should be noted that the amount given to one person should not be less than one fitra.

WHEN IS FITRA GIVEN?

The most appropriate time to give fitra is the moment before sunrise on the first day of Eid al-Fitr. However, fitra can also be given before the holiday, and this is even more virtuous. Giving fitra before the Eid prayer is considered commendable and is an act that brings more rewards. However, it can also be given on the first day of the holiday or afterward, but the highest reward is obtained by giving this charity at the specified time.

WHOM IS FITRA NOT GIVEN TO?

Fitra is not given to those considered wealthy from a religious perspective. Additionally, it is not permissible to give fitra to close relatives such as parents, children, grandchildren, grandparents, and grandmothers. Furthermore, giving fitra to a spouse is also not deemed appropriate. While fitra is not given to these individuals, the assistance provided to those in need is a very important act of worship in fulfilling social responsibility.
