The incident occurred at night on Mecidiyeköy Merkez Street. According to allegations, a dispute broke out for an unknown reason between taxi driver Erdal Çiçek and the passenger he had picked up while they were traveling.

As the argument escalated, Çiçek stopped his vehicle by the roadside. During the continuing argument outside the car, the passenger attacked the taxi driver with a hard object.

SUFFERED A HEART ATTACK

Erdal Çiçek fell to the ground due to the blow to his head and hit his head on the curb. It was reported that Çiçek suffered a heart attack at the scene. Upon notification, medical teams arriving at the scene performed CPR on the taxi driver. Seriously injured, Çiçek was taken by ambulance to Prof. Dr. Cemil Taşcıoğlu City Hospital for treatment.

CAUGHT WHILE TRYING TO ESCAPE

The suspect, who tried to flee after the attack, was caught by other taxi drivers in the vicinity and handed over to police teams. It was learned that the detained suspect's procedures at the police station are ongoing.

Speaking in front of the hospital after the incident, Istanbul Taxi Drivers Association President Deniz Dündar stated that taxi drivers face security issues and requested the implementation of cabin applications in taxis. Dündar said, "We are taxi drivers. We don't know who we are carrying. We have become a profession that carries death in our vehicles."
