In Adana, 7-year-old Osman Yağız Güler, who beat leukemia after about 1 year of treatment, is experiencing the happiness of growing his hair again with his father, who was by his side at every moment of his treatment.
Their child Osman Yağız, of the couple Çiğdem and Sinan Güler living in the Central Sarıçam district, was diagnosed with leukemia 1 year ago at Çukurova University Faculty of Medicine Balcalı Hospital.
After the diagnosis, Yağız, who did not need a transplant, began receiving chemotherapy.
During this process, support for Yağız, who was upset because his hair had started to fall out, came from his father. Father Sinan Güler, wanting to give his son some morale, also had his hair cut.
Father Güler continued to have his hair cut throughout his son's treatment.
After about 1 year of treatment, Yağız, who beat leukemia, is experiencing the happiness of regaining his health and growing his hair again with his father.
THEIR WORLD CAME CRASHING DOWN WHEN THEY LEARNED OF THE DIAGNOSIS
Father Sinan Güler told an AA correspondent that they went through a difficult process after his son was diagnosed with leukemia.
Güler, who said he did not even want to remember the moments when his son was diagnosed with cancer, said, “When we learned our son's first diagnosis, our world came crashing down on us. We did not expect it to be something this advanced.”
Güler stated that during his son's treatment, the doctors and the Health and Education Foundation for Children with Leukemia (LÖSEV) were always by their side.
Güler, noting that his son withdrew into himself when his hair fell out and did not want to go outside or play with his friends, described their experience as follows:
“Yağız was upset and bored because he had no hair. We would sit and talk; he would say, ‘Dad, why isn't my hair growing? I want my hair to grow now. I can't go outside to my friends and play.’ After such a conversation, I made a decision. I said, ‘Let my son be happy; why shouldn't I cut my hair too? We'll be happy together, and he'll feel better.’ I handed him the clippers and he cut it himself. He was very happy while cutting it. Together we both shaved our hair. We continued like this until his hair grew back. We are very well now. Both of our hair has grown back and become thicker. He is very happy and plays outside with his friends.”
HIS DREAM IS TO BECOME AN ASTRONAUT
Osman Yağız Güler also expressed that he was happy to have recovered.
Güler, explaining that since he is now healthy he can do everything he wants, spoke as follows:
“I can go to school and study. At the same time, I can play with my sibling and my friends; I am very happy. I want to become an astronaut. That's why I study very hard for my lessons. During the hospital process, my hair was falling out. My father also cut his hair for me. I love my father very much and I am proud of him.”
Güler stated that after his recovery, LÖSEV, which had always been by his side, bought him a bicycle and made one of his biggest dreams come true.
HIS MOTHER: HE HAS NO HEALTH PROBLEMS LEFT
Mother Çiğdem Güler also stated that they had left the difficult days behind.
Güler, emphasizing that her son started school late due to his illness, noted the following:
“During his illness, he could not play with everyone because of joint pain and complained about it. He is well now; he has no illness or health problem whatsoever left. He is comfortable, happy, can laugh, and can play with his friends.”
