TRUCK MOWS DOWN VEHICLES
The accident occurred when the brakes of a truck traveling from the Manisa direction towards Bornova failed. The out-of-control truck crossed the median barrier, entered the opposite lane, and collided with oncoming vehicles.
2 DEAD, 3 INJURED
Numerous police, health, and fire department teams were dispatched to the region upon notification. According to initial assessments, 2 people lost their lives in the accident, and 3 people including 2 police officers were injured. It was learned that the police officers are in critical condition.
Teams arriving at the scene continue their work. Police have taken security measures in the area, while the injured have been taken to hospitals.
STATEMENT FROM THE GOVERNOR'S OFFICE
In a statement from the Izmir Governor's Office regarding the accident, the following expressions were included: 'A traffic accident involving 10 vehicles, including a police vehicle on duty, occurred as a result of a truck traveling from Manisa towards Izmir, which according to initial assessments experienced brake failure, going out of control and crossing into the opposite lane.
In the accident, 2 citizens including the truck driver lost their lives, 2 police officers with life-threatening conditions were seriously injured, and 3 citizens were injured and transferred to various hospitals.'
