The Global Sumud Fleet, which set out to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza, faced intervention by the Israeli navy in international waters of the Mediterranean. While it was reported that contact was completely lost with the 11 ships blockaded by Israeli warships off the coast of Greece, moments when activists on board put on life jackets and waited were captured on camera. Fleet authorities, arguing that international law rules had been violated, made an urgent appeal to world public opinion.
he said.
Lee, stating that they are prepared for any possible intervention against their own boat, said, "We are prepared and are preparing ourselves for any situation they might unlawfully do, such as opening fire, stopping, or anything else. We are 9 people from different countries. We are very calm on the boat."
Lee, noting that they have not engaged in any illegal activity, said, "We are trying to break the illegal blockade imposed by Israel on Gaza in international waters. They have been showing the world that they are a terrorist state committing crime after crime for more than 76 years. We would very much like to continue sailing toward Gaza, which is our mission, nothing else."
ACTIVISTS WAIT WITH LIFE JACKETS
In footage leaked from the incident, activists on the ship are seen trying to maintain their composure but preparing for the seriousness of the situation.
The images show moments in pitch darkness where activists, wearing orange life jackets on the ship's deck, follow radar screens and await the approach of Israeli warships.
In the video taken from the ship, the lights of Israeli navy warships on the horizon and their approach can be clearly distinguished.
"INTERNATIONAL LAW IS BEING VIOLATED"
The activists emphasized that the intervention took place not in any territorial waters but entirely in international waters, stating that Israel is clearly violating maritime law.
INTERVENTION CLAIM FROM ISRAELI PRESS
According to a report by Israeli Army Radio, an Israeli source said, "We have begun seizing the boats of the aid flotilla to Gaza, far from the Israeli coast."
Israel's Channel 12 television also claimed that one of the boats in the flotilla was seized by the Israeli Navy.
GLOBAL SUMUD FLEET
The Global Sumud Fleet, aiming to break Israel's blockade of Gaza and deliver humanitarian aid to the region, completed its final preparations on the Italian island of Sicily for its "Spring 2026 Mission" and set sail into the Mediterranean on April 26.
In the Global Sumud Fleet's first initiative in September 2025, the Israeli army illegally stopped the fleet in the international waters of the Mediterranean, forcibly boarded the boats, detained the volunteers on board, and took them to Israel.
