A tragic accident at an amusement park in Colombia resulted in the death of a 28-year-old mother who fell from a slide. The incident was captured on security cameras, and the footage quickly became a topic of discussion on social media.
The event took place at a theme park in Chinacota, Colombia. The footage shows a young woman named Cristel Camila Garcia being persuaded by park staff to go down a nearly vertical slide. The staff member can be heard telling Cristel, who is sitting in a tire on the slide, "There's no need to be afraid."
Before getting on the slide, the young mother anxiously asks the staff, "Will someone be waiting for me at the bottom?" The staff member responds that there is a swimming pool at the end of the slide where everyone is safely caught.
After these words, the staff member pushes Cristel down the slide. The young woman begins to slide down rapidly. However, when she reaches a curved section of the slide, she loses her balance, flies off the slide, and is thrown into the air.
Falling from a height of about 4–5 meters, Cristel is severely injured. The young mother was immediately taken to the hospital after the incident but could not be saved despite all the doctors' interventions.
The footage also captures a staff member at the top of the slide exclaiming in shock, "Oh, she came off the slide!"
The amusement ride, promoted on the park's website as a "curved single slide," was reported to have opened just a few weeks before the accident.
It was noted that Cristel Camila Garcia had a four-year-old daughter.
Yuris Cristel Camila Garcia Manrique, a family member of Cristel, stated that the business operating the slide, Entre Flores, did not contact the family after the accident. Manrique expressed that the business did not offer assistance regarding the funeral and did not take responsibility.
The family stated that they want a thorough investigation into all aspects of the incident and for those responsible to be held accountable. According to them, there were insufficient safety measures at the establishment where the accident occurred.
Investigations following the accident revealed that the slide in question did not have the necessary official permits. Consequently, this slide at the amusement park was closed.
Entre Flores company stated in a press release that they extend their condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased Cristel Camila Garcia. The company also announced that emergency procedures were activated after the incident and that they are cooperating with the police investigation.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
