Within the scope of work carried out under the coordination of the Presidency's Directorate of Communications, access bans have been imposed on 699 social media accounts identified as linked to terrorist and criminal organizations over the past two months, as well as on 1,335 accounts found to be conducting provocation, disinformation, and psychological warfare activities. It was stated that the accounts of FETÖ fugitives Erk Acarer and Dilek Ekmekçi were also among those whose access was blocked.
As part of the efforts carried out under the coordination of the Presidency's Directorate of Communications, access bans have been imposed on numerous social media accounts linked to terrorist propaganda, provocation, disinformation, and psychological operations activities.
ACCESS BAN ON 2,034 ACCOUNTS
Burhanettin Duran, the Head of the Presidential Directorate of Communications, made a statement regarding the efforts against terrorist propaganda, disinformation, and psychological operations activities on digital platforms.
Duran reported that as a result of the work carried out under the coordination of the Directorate of Communications, together with the Chief Public Prosecutor's Offices and the Cyber Crimes Department of the General Directorate of Security, an access ban decision was taken for 2,034 social media accounts.
699 LINKED TO TERROR ORGANIZATIONS
In the examinations conducted over the last two months, access bans were imposed on 699 social media accounts determined to be linked to terrorist and criminal organizations, primarily FETO-affiliated accounts, and targeting national security and social unity.
DISINFORMATION DETECTED IN 1,335 ACCOUNTS
As a result of technical examinations and digital network analyses, legal and administrative proceedings were also carried out against 1,335 accounts determined to be conducting provocation, disinformation, and psychological operations activities.
It was stated that these accounts produced content targeting social peace and the atmosphere of brotherhood.
"DIGITAL SECURITY IS PART OF NATIONAL SECURITY"
Burhanettin Duran stated that the areas of activity of terrorist organizations are no longer limited only to the field, and that digital platforms are also used for propaganda and manipulation purposes.
Duran emphasized that Turkey continues its fight against terrorism in the field, beyond the borders, and in the digital domain, saying, "The digital space is not unowned. Turkey will not allow any digital operation targeting its national security."
Duran, stating that the Directorate of Communications will continue to monitor digital platforms, noted that by combating disinformation, citizens will be ensured access to accurate and reliable information.
AMONG THEM IS ALSO THE ACCOUNT OF ERK ACARER
On the other hand, among the accounts detected to have shared content against Turkey and subject to access bans were the account of Erk Acarer, a FETO fugitive abroad, and the account of Dilek Ekmekci, who has close contact with another FETO member, Cevheri Guven.
Acarer had previously been included in the file as a fugitive suspect in the investigation into the disclosure of the identity information and duties of a martyred MIT agent. In the indictment prepared by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was assessed that Acarer, through his social media posts, had disclosed information about the duties and activities of the martyred MIT member.
The indictment also included the finding that some information regarding the martyred MIT member's duties and position was first revealed by Acarer on social media.
An arrest warrant had also been issued for Acarer within the scope of this investigation. In the prosecutor's office's letter, it was stated that Acarer left the country on April 7, 2017, never returned to Turkey, is located in Germany, and that there are other arrest warrants against him.
