"After the dissolution of the PKK, all eyes are on the second phase! MIT will monitor step by step."

The focus is on the second phase of the PKK's decision to disband and lay down arms. Turkey will establish two separate commissions in Sulaymaniyah and Erbil for the surrender of weapons, which will be monitored by the MIT (National Intelligence Organization). The organization's upper management may remain in third countries, but they will not be allowed to stay collectively in one country. The disarmament process of the YPG, the PKK's Syrian branch, will be conducted in coordination with the Damascus administration.

After the historic decision in which the PKK announced its dissolution, attention turned to the next steps. How and where will PKK terrorists lay down their arms, what will the disarmed terrorists do, and where will the organization's top management go? As Turkey moves into the second phase of a terrorism-free process, the timeline for the delivery of weapons, which is expected to take three months and constitutes the most important aspect of this period, will begin to operate.

TWO SEPARATE COMMISSIONS WILL BE ESTABLISHED IN TWO CITIES

In June, a mechanism will be established within Turkey, in Iraq, and in Syria for this purpose. Two separate commissions will be set up in Sulaymaniyah and Erbil for the delivery of weapons. Officials from the Iraqi Central Government, the Northern Iraq Administration, and MIT will work together in these commissions. The disarmament process will be monitored by MIT 24/7. In particular, whether the dissolution and disarmament process is merely 'symbolic' will be observed and reported through various channels.

TOP MANAGEMENT WILL NOT BE ABLE TO STAY IN IRAQ AND SYRIA

According to a report in Türkiye Gazetesi, the organization's leadership, numbering around 250, will not be allowed to remain in Iraq or Syria. Those in this situation may go to third countries, but it will not be possible for them to stay collectively in one country. While processes regarding the collection and destruction of weapons and the fate of the organization’s members are underway, the formula of another country's guarantee will also not be on the agenda. Turkey will carry out this process with Iraq and Syria.

YPG WILL ALSO LAY DOWN ARMS

The process regarding the YPG, the organization's Syrian branch, will be conducted with the Damascus administration. Turkey and the Damascus administration have consistently advocated for the expulsion of YPG members who are not Syrian, the integration of others into the Damascus administration, and their legal party formation. Furthermore, no autonomous structure or separate armed entity will be allowed in northern Syria in any way.

TURKEY WILL CONTINUE TO STAY IN THE REGION

Additionally, in both Iraq and Syria, in response to the possibility of those opposing the new process leaving the organization to form a different armed structure, Turkey will continue to stay in the region for a long time. AK Party sources stated that the observation process related to the process will take a long time, saying, "After this stage, what is important is how these decisions will be implemented on the ground. The progress of the process after the PKK lays down its arms will take time. Immediate results should not be expected."

NEW STEPS WILL BE TAKEN

On the other hand, according to MIT's observations in the field, some new steps regarding democratization in Turkey will gradually come to the agenda. However, while these steps are taken, Turkey's red lines will not be compromised.

"TURKEY WILL TAKE ALL THE WEAPONS THAT PKK WILL SURRENDER"

Furthermore, regarding the weapons that the terrorist organization PKK will surrender, TGRT News Ankara Representative Fatih Atik stated, "Turkey will take all the weapons that PKK surrenders. An examination will be conducted on the weapons. It will be investigated whether they were used in Turkey. The disarmament will continue throughout the summer months."
