Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek announced that an operation was carried out against illegal betting sites before the Fenerbahçe-Beşiktaş derby. Within the scope of the investigation, 1,200 bank accounts belonging to 1,048 real and legal entities were seized, and access blockage decisions were taken for approximately 98,000 websites.

BUTTON PRESSED BEFORE THE BIG DERBY

It was stated that the operation organized before the Fenerbahçe-Beşiktaş match aimed to cut the flow of money directed to illegal betting sites.

Under the coordination of the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, comprehensive examinations regarding the illegal betting network were conducted by teams from the Istanbul Provincial Gendarmerie Command Cyber Crimes Branch Directorate.

Within the scope of the investigation, 345 illegal betting sites, 110 different payment methods, and 1,200 IBANs were identified. Additionally, approximately 98,000 websites linked to illegal betting were determined.

1,200 BANK ACCOUNTS SEIZED

Seizure procedures were applied to 1,200 bank accounts belonging to 1,048 real and legal persons determined to have been used in illegal betting activities and the laundering of criminal proceeds.

In addition, a judicial decision was made to block access to approximately 98,000 websites.

INVESTIGATION LAUNCHED AGAINST SUSPECTS

Within the scope of the operation, an investigation was initiated against those involved for violating Law No. 7258 and laundering property values arising from crime.

Minister Gürlek thanked the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, the Istanbul Provincial Gendarmerie Command, and the public officials involved in carrying out the operation.

Gürlek stated that they would not allow sports matches to be used for illegal betting activities and expressed that the fight against illegal betting networks and criminal proceeds would continue with determination.
