In the İYİ Party, the crisis that began with Ahmet Eşref Fakıbaba’s statements regarding the “Terror-Free Turkey” process, the new constitution, and the Mecca Agreement ended in resignation. Ankara MP Fakıbaba announced that, following İYİ Party leader Dervişoğlu’s call, he resigned from both party membership and his parliamentary seat.
Ankara MP Ahmet Eşref Fakıbaba, who took a stance different from his party by supporting the new constitution efforts and the Mecca Agreement, announced his decision after İYİ Party Chairman Müsavat Dervişoğlu's call for resignation. Acting upon Dervişoğlu's words, "I expect his resignation from our party and from his parliamentary seat," Fakıbaba announced that he resigned from both his party and his parliamentary seat.
HE LEFT THE PARTY AT DERVİŞOĞLU'S REQUEST
Announcing his resignation decision from his social media account, Fakıbaba included the following statements in his announcement:
"In line with the request of our esteemed Chairman Müsavat Dervişoğlu, I respectfully present to the public that I have resigned from İYİ Party membership; and, as required by my understanding of political ethics, from my duty as Ankara MP."
HE ALSO RESIGNED FROM HIS PARLIAMENTARY SEAT
It drew attention that Fakıbaba stated in his announcement that his departure from party membership took place upon the chairman's request. Announcing that he had also decided to leave his position as Ankara MP, Fakıbaba justified this decision with his understanding of political ethics.
HE HAD SUPPORTED THE NEW CONSTITUTION AND THE MECCA AGREEMENT
Although the İYİ Party leadership kept its distance from the New Constitution efforts, Fakıbaba clarified his own stance and argued that Turkey needed a civilian and new constitution. Announcing that he would vote "Yes" on the New Constitution text coming to Parliament, Fakıbaba also stated that he would support the Mecca Agreement.
