AK Party Deputy Chairman Nihat Zeybekci made striking statements regarding fund investigations in capital markets. Arguing that what happened was linked to the negligence of approximately 6 public institutions, Zeybekci said that there were also abuses in the management of some institutions. Saying that "there is an army of those who commit fraud," Zeybekci noted that his own companies were among those victimized and emphasized that the legal process should be pursued.

AK Party Deputy Chairman Nihat Zeybekci said in his speech at the AK Party Tavas District Advisory Council Meeting held at the Youth Center Conference Hall in Tavas district of Denizli that political and economic balances in the world are changing and that Turkey has maintained its stability despite conflicts around it.

Referring to the wars in the region and global tensions, Zeybekci stated that Turkey continued its exports and economic growth in this process and also achieved positive results in tourism.

Noting that Turkey has made progress in many areas, especially in the defense industry, Zeybekci explained that under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the country has increased its effectiveness in the international arena.

“THE FUND ISSUE IS UNFORTUNATELY RELATED TO THE NEGLIGENCE OF APPROXIMATELY 6 PUBLIC INSTITUTIONS”

Referring also to the fund investigations conducted regarding transactions in the capital markets, Zeybekci spoke as follows: “This fund issue is unfortunately related to the negligence of approximately 6 public institutions. There is negligence by public officials, and some have negligence at a higher level. Unfortunately, there is both negligence and misconduct in the management of some public institutions. But we are a state of law. In a state of law, you cannot say, ‘Take this, take that away.’ The law must function, the system must work, but the negligence of these institutions is clear.”

“THERE IS AN ARMY OF SWINDLERS”

Nothing can be hidden. Especially in this period, in this age of information, this age of records, nothing can be hidden. There is an army of swindlers. There are also those who get swindled. Our companies are among them. Be assured of this: from the age of 7 to this day, there is not a single breath of mine that I cannot account for. We are people of the world who, as you all know, ran around a tobacco field all summer at the age of 7.

Zeybekci also recalled Turkey's transportation and infrastructure investments in past years and explained that highway, ring road, and tunnel projects contributed to trade and tourism.

The meeting, attended by AK Party Denizli MP Nilgün Ök, AK Party Provincial Chairman Muhammet Subaşıoğlu, and party members, later continued in a closed session to the press.

HE HAD SAID “I AM A VICTIM OF THE FUND”

In an interview he gave earlier, Zeybekci had confirmed that four companies in which he is a partner had money in the TP2 fund owned by Tera Portföy, for which a liquidation decision had been made. Zeybekci, saying that employees had deposited the money in the last two months without his knowledge, had said, “I should have known. If I had been aware, I would not have allowed it.”

Nihat Zeybekci had used the following statements: “Unfortunately, there is negligence by the state. The state is in a position to know these things second by second, to monitor them, and to intervene. Citizens kept their money in these places with the assurance that ‘if something happened, the state would intervene.’ We must not confuse the 455,000 people with those who carried out manipulative transactions and made billions and exited.”

When asked a question about the Capital Markets Board (SPK), Zeybekci said, “First of all, the SPK is negligent,” and stated that institutions such as the SPK and Borsa Istanbul have the capability to monitor transactions in real time. Zeybekci also expressed that a regulation should be made regarding citizens' principal amounts.

“THE STATE DOES NOT NEGLECT ITS DUTY”

In a second statement he later made on the issue, Zeybekci said, “Because my statements regarding the fund crisis that has occupied our country's agenda in recent days were reported as ‘there is negligence by the state,’ it has become necessary to make the following statement.”

Using the phrase “The state does not neglect its duty,” Zeybekci continued, “The state sets rules and gives authority and responsibility to the institutions that will implement them. If there is negligence, only these institutions and those responsible can commit it. In the event of neglect of this duty and responsibility, the state does what is necessary.” he had said.
