Fikret Albayrak, Mayor of Akçakoca in Düzce, has been detained as part of a “corruption” investigation against him. A search was conducted at Albayrak's home and a municipal affiliate following allegations that he demanded 2.5 million TL in exchange for construction permits and occupancy certificates. Albayrak, who was reported to have traveled to Antalya, was taken into custody in Afyonkarahisar.

"ALLEGEDLY DEMANDED 2.5 MILLION TL"
Complainant E.Ö. stated that in 2023, Albayrak contacted him through his father H.Ö. for the completion of occupancy permit processes for his ongoing construction, for which he had obtained a permit, demanding 2.5 million lira and agreeing to accept checks in return. He claimed that he subsequently received a partial occupancy permit for his construction and filed a complaint with the Düzce Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.
INVESTIGATION INITIATED
Additionally, following a complaint by H.P. that his construction was halted for the same reasons and that Albayrak demanded 1 million lira from him through his employee F.Ç., but since he did not pay the money, the continuation of construction activities was not allowed, along with similar complaints, the Düzce Chief Public Prosecutor's Office launched an investigation on charges of "extortion."
TAKEN INTO CUSTODY
A detention order was issued for Mayor Albayrak, and searches were conducted at his home and the municipal subsidiary.
Albayrak, who was reported to have gone to Antalya, was taken into custody in Afyonkarahisar.
