Ali Babacan, Chairman of the DEVA Party, speaking at the New Path group meeting, drew attention to the degeneration on television screens and targeted series and daytime programs. Arguing that societal values are being eroded through the media, Babacan stated that the content on screens is contrary to family structure and cultural fabric, and reacted strongly to broadcast policies.
DEVA Party Chairman Ali Babacan, speaking at the New Path group meeting, harshly criticized daytime television programs and series. Arguing that these programs are contrary to social values, Babacan claimed that the current broadcasting policy is a deliberate "perception operation."
"COMPLETELY CONTRARY TO OUR CULTURE"
In his speech, Babacan drew attention to the themes handled in series and daytime programs and said:
"These broadcasts are completely contrary to our culture. These channels, which advertise all kinds of distorted relationships and normalize criminal organizations and the mafia, are media outlets under the direct control of the government. Those who make the most immoral broadcasts and constantly deal with topics that corrupt society are unfortunately again these channels."
"NOT RATINGS, A SUBCONSCIOUS OPERATION"
Stating that the situation cannot be explained solely by economic reasons, Babacan argued that these broadcasts are used to implant the message 'society is corrupted' into the public's subconscious.
Babacan said, "All these productions are imprinting the following onto the social subconscious: 'Actually, society is corrupted; the fault lies with the people; those governing the country have no fault.' They want to make our people say 'the fault is ours.' No, the fault is not with our people; it lies with those who constantly pump this wrongfulness through televisions."
"THEY PRESENT WHAT HAPPENS IN ONE IN 100 FAMILIES AS IF IT EXISTS IN EVERY HOME"
Arguing that social degeneration is magnified through the media, Babacan concluded his speech by emphasizing that reflecting rare negative incidents as if they were a general situation is not an honest approach.
