THE INCIDENT

In the attack organized by 14-year-old student İsa Aras Mersinli with his former police father's weapons at Ayser Çalık Middle School in Kahramanmaraş on April 15, 1 teacher and 9 students lost their lives. Mersinli also died in the attack.

After the attack, the father, whose statements were taken, said the weapons at home belonged to him but that his son did not know where they were and had no access to them, while the mother stated that her son had been displaying withdrawn behavior and experiencing anger control issues for some time, but they could not foresee such an attack. Contrary to the family's statements after the attack, numerous photographs of the attacker Mersinli posing with the weapons and footage of his father taking him to the shooting range to practice shooting emerged.

Regarding the incident, the mother, Turkish Language and Literature Teacher Peyman Pınar Mersinli, and the father, police chief inspector Uğur Mersinli, were arrested. It was stated that psychologists from two different institutions noted before the incident that the perpetrator needed child psychiatry support, but the mother did not take the suggestions into account.

Following the incident, education at the school was suspended, and it was decided that students and teachers would continue their education at Şehit Tebernuş Özler Middle School, while preschool students would continue at Şirinler Kindergarten.
