Hacı Özdemir, who has worked as a cleaning worker in the municipality in Elazığ for 10 years, set an example by delivering to its owner a bag he found in the middle of the road while on duty, containing approximately 600 thousand TL worth of money and gold.
A FORTUNE CAME OUT OF THE BAG HE FOUND IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD
The incident occurred around 10:00 on Saturday in Çaydaçıra Neighborhood. Hacı Özdemir, who noticed an abandoned bag in the middle of the road while cleaning the street, saw that there was a large amount of money inside when he opened the bag.
Özdemir, realizing that the bag contained euros, dollars, Turkish liras, and gold, immediately called his supervisors and reported the situation.
Upon his supervisors' direction, the cleaning worker went to the police station and handed over the bag he found to police teams.
POLICE FOUND THE OWNER
Police teams recorded the money and gold inside the bag and launched work to identify its owner.
After the examinations, the owner of the bag was identified and called to the police station. The citizen, reunited with the bag he had lost, thanked Hacı Özdemir.
"MAYBE IT IS A POOR PERSON'S MONEY"
Hacı Özdemir, recounting what happened, said that at the moment he found the bag, no thought such as taking the money crossed his mind.
Özdemir said, "There were euros, gold, dollars, and Turkish liras in the bag. There was approximately 500-600 thousand liras worth of money in the bag. When we found the bag, absolutely nothing came to our minds. We did what was required of us. This is what should be done. That money will bring no good to anyone. Maybe it is a poor person's money. That money would have been haram to us, so we could not take it and carry it away."
"WE DID OUR HUMANITARIAN DUTY"
Özdemir, stating that he was happy the owner was found after handing the bag over to the police, emphasized that the incident was for him only a responsibility of citizenship.
Özdemir used the expressions, "The owner came too, and we handed over the bag. We did our humanitarian duty."
