THOUSANDS MARCHED TO THE PARLIAMENT BUILDING IN GEORGIA
The demonstration, organized by the "Opposition Alliance," consisting of some opposition parties that identify themselves as pro-European Union (EU), began in the evening in front of Tbilisi Ivane Javakhishvili State University.
Thousands of people, accusing the government of pursuing ineffective policies in the country's integration process with the EU, marched to the parliament building.
The protesters, carrying flags of Georgia, the EU, the USA, and Ukraine, chanted anti-government slogans.
The protesters demanded the release of those who were detained during months-long protests that began on November 28, 2024, against the government's decision to suspend the process of starting EU accession negotiations for four years, and who were subsequently tried while in custody.
"OUR GOAL IS TO HOLD NEW PARLIAMENTARY ELECTIONS"
The protesters passed through Petre Melikishvili and Shota Rustaveli avenues in central Tbilisi and arrived in front of the parliament.
Nika Gvaramia, one of the leaders of the Opposition Alliance, stated in his speech there that their goal is to hold new parliamentary elections in the country.
Gvaramia said, "We are launching a campaign across Georgia; Georgia deserves better." The protest ended in the night hours.
