With the new regulation of the Ministry of National Education (MEB), driver candidates will now take the exam in real traffic instead of a fixed course. In the new system, where parking between two cones has been replaced by stages such as parking between real vehicles and entering and exiting shopping mall parking lots, the driving exam duration has been increased from 35 minutes to 1 hour, and mandatory driving training has been increased to 24 hours.

The new regulation put into effect by the Ministry of National Education (MEB) completely changes the driver's license acquisition process. While the fixed course system that has been applied for years is being replaced by the "free route" practice, the exam duration is increased to 1 hour and driving training to 24 hours.

With the new regulation that MEB has started to implement gradually, the era of candidates getting their driver's licenses by memorization is being left behind. In the new system, driver candidates will be subjected to the driving exam not on a specific route but directly in flowing traffic, among real vehicles, and in shopping mall parking lots.

PARKING BETWEEN REAL VEHICLES, SPEED TEST ON THE RING ROAD

Salih Er, an official from a driving school operating in Eskişehir, stated that the new regulation is revolutionary in terms of training professional drivers and shared the details. Reminding that in the old system parking was done between two cones, Er emphasized that in the new process candidates will park between real vehicles and used the following statements: "In the previous exam system, movement was carried out along a specific route. With the introduced free route exam system, candidate drivers will start the exam in the city, province, and district in normal flowing traffic. With the new system, the candidate will try to park between real vehicles. They will also receive training on the ring road and will be ensured to reach a certain maximum speed. After reaching this speed, the exam will be completed by allowing entry and exit to shopping mall parking lots if necessary."

EXAM DURATION WILL BE 1 HOUR, TRAINING WILL INCREASE TO 24 HOURS

With the regulation, radical increases have also been made in exam and training durations:

  • Exam Duration: The driving exam, which previously lasted 35 minutes, will now take about 1 hour with the new regulation.
  • Training Duration: Driving training, which was completed between 14-16 hours in the previous system, will increase to 24 hours due to the expansion of the route and the increase in practical needs.
