The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation against Halk TV and journalist Barış Pehlivan for disclosing a phone conversation with an expert witness, as well as for making statements that could influence the course of the trial by revealing the name of the expert witness in a way that targets them.
The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office announced today during a press conference regarding Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu that it has initiated an investigation ex officio, as it was determined that he publicly targeted an expert witness involved in some of the investigations conducted by the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, with the aim of influencing the judicial officer by disclosing his name and attempting to lead to a decision favorable to the suspects of the investigation.
It was also learned that instructions were given to the Istanbul Police Department to carry out the necessary identification and initiate an investigation against those making statements in this direction in the written and visual media.
INVESTIGATION INTO HALK TV AND BARIS PEHLIVAN
In relation to the matter, it was reported that an investigation was initiated against Barış Pehlivan and the relevant presenter and officials of Halk TV for the crimes of "Eavesdropping and Recording Conversations Between Individuals and Attempting to Influence an Expert Witness," as it was revealed that they unlawfully recorded and broadcasted a phone conversation with the expert witness during a Halk TV broadcast, and made statements aimed at influencing the course of the trial by disclosing the expert's name in a way that would target him.
