Selma Aliye Kavaf, who served as a State Minister in the government cabinet of the AK Party in 2009 and switched from the AK Party to the DEVA Party in 2020, has joined the CHP. Kavaf, who was presented with her badge by Özel, explained her reason for being under the CHP umbrella by saying, "The reason I am under the CHP umbrella is my belief in human rights, law, and democracy."
Former DEVA Party Member of Parliament Selma Aliye Kavaf joined her new party at today's CHP group meeting. At the ceremony, Kavaf, who was presented with a badge by CHP Chairman Özgür Özel, emphasized "a new era of struggle."

HER RAPID RISE IN THE AK PARTY HAD CAUGHT ATTENTION
Born in 1962 in Denizli, Kavaf graduated from Ankara University with a degree in Turkish Language and Literature. In 2002, she became a candidate for the Denizli Member of Parliament from the AK Party, and in 2003, she served as the Founding Chair of the AK Party Women's Branch. She was elected as a member of parliament in 2007 and took office as the Minister of Family and Social Policies in 2009.
THE PATH FROM DEVA PARTY TO CHP
Kavaf was among the founders of the DEVA Party in 2020. However, on January 8, 2024, she announced her resignation from DEVA, stating that she was opening "a new page in my political goals." With her joining the ranks of CHP today, she began her duties in her new party. CHP Chairman Özgür Özel stated, "Ms. Selma's experience is valuable for our party."
