A judicial process has been initiated against CHP Edirne Deputy Ahmet Baran Yazgan, who was beaten over allegations of "sexual harassment" and "sexual assault at the level of molestation" against a woman in Edirne. Following the footage of the beating that surfaced on social media and the serious allegations, the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office announced that an investigation has been launched against Yazgan ex officio.
The Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office announced that an ex officio investigation has been initiated against CHP Edirne Deputy Ahmet Baran Yazgan on charges of "sexual harassment" and "sexual assault amounting to molestation" due to footage and allegations circulating on social media.
Yazgan, from the CHP, was beaten in Edirne on allegations of harassing a woman. Following the incident, which was recorded on mobile phones by those present at the home, it was learned that the parties filed mutual complaints. While three people were detained, an investigation was launched against Yazgan on allegations of sexual harassment.
The incident occurred at around 03:15 on 13 August 2026 in Edirne. Police teams were dispatched to the address following a fight report from apartment residents.
During the police teams' initial examination at the scene, CHP Edirne Deputy Ahmet Baran Yazgan stated that he had been assaulted, his mobile phone was taken, and footage of him being beaten was recorded, and he filed a complaint. During the search, Yazgan's mobile phone was found under the refrigerator and returned to him.
3 SUSPECTS DETAINED
Three individuals linked to the incident, identified as Nuh D., Begüm Ş., and T.A., were apprehended and detained. The suspects' mobile phones were also seized within the scope of the investigation.
It was stated that, in their statements, the suspects recounted that they had come together before the incident for a birthday celebration, then chatted at T.A.'s home and consumed alcohol on the balcony.
The suspects claimed that during this time, Ahmet Baran Yazgan made sexually explicit remarks towards T.A., who was present, and said he wanted to have sexual intercourse with her. They also alleged that Yazgan asked the other individuals to leave the home.
The suspects stated that after these words, an argument broke out and quickly turned into a fight, and that the events were recorded on a mobile phone by T.A.
FOOTAGE OF THE ASSAULT INCLUDED IN THE INVESTIGATION FILE
It was learned that the footage taken during the incident was shown to officials by T.A. and included in the investigation file.
It was stated that the footage includes the moments when Ahmet Baran Yazgan was being beaten. It was reported that examinations of digital materials are ongoing to fully clarify all aspects of the incident.
It was noted that Yazgan stated he did not wish to give a statement at the Police Department, and therefore his statement could not be taken there. It was recorded that the deputy was planned to be invited to the courthouse by the Edirne Chief Public Prosecutor's Office during the day to give his statement.
SEPARATE INVESTIGATION INTO SEXUAL HARASSMENT ALLEGATION
Following the incident, a separate investigation was also initiated against Ahmet Baran Yazgan based on the allegations raised in the suspects' statements.
It was learned that the Edirne Chief Public Prosecutor's Office would separately investigate the allegations of "sexual harassment" and "sexual assault amounting to molestation" against Yazgan and would prepare a report to be sent to the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office to carry out the necessary procedures within the scope of the deputy's parliamentary immunity.
WITNESS STATEMENT ADDED TO THE FILE
Within the scope of the investigation, a witness statement regarding the night of the incident was also added to the file.
According to the statement record dated 13 August 2026, the witness recounted that they gathered at a restaurant called Değirmen Bahçe on the night of 12 August for Tuğba A.'s birthday. The witness said that Begüm Ş. and her daughter were with A., and they celebrated the birthday by having dinner there.
The witness stated that as they were leaving the venue around midnight, Ahmet Baran Yazgan approached the group; he did not previously know Yazgan and was unaware he was a deputy. The witness said Yazgan introduced himself, shook hands with the group, and congratulated Tuğba A. on her birthday, after which the group moved to A.'s home.
The witness recounted that while they were sitting on the balcony, they were told Yazgan would also come to celebrate the birthday, and Yazgan arrived at the home approximately 10-15 minutes later.
The statement record noted that detailed questions were directed to the witness about what happened on the night of the incident, and the statement was taken in the presence of legal counsel.
ALLEGATIONS OF SIX SEPARATE CHARGES AGAINST YAZGAN
In the statement record added to the investigation file, it was seen that the lawyer of the complainant Nuh Deliözü made various accusations against Yazgan and filed a complaint.
The record argued that actions were taken within the scope of self-defense to prevent the alleged acts of injury, insult, and sexual harassment against his clients Begüm Ş. and Tuğba A.
Additionally, it was claimed that Yazgan intentionally injured Nuh Deliözü by using a glass as a weapon during the incident.
In the record submitted by the lawyer, it was stated that complaints were filed against Yazgan for the offenses of violation of home privacy, sexual harassment, attempted sexual assault, intentional injury using a weapon, threats, and insult, and a request was made to join the case.
The record also included information that Yazgan's mobile phone was found by police teams under the refrigerator.
INVESTIGATION LAUNCHED AGAINST YAZGAN
Meanwhile, it was learned that following the footage of the incident spreading on social media and the allegations put forward, an investigation was launched against CHP Edirne Deputy Ahmet Baran Yazgan on charges of "sexual harassment" and "sexual assault amounting to molestation."
