CHP Niğde Deputy Ömer Fethi Gürer responded to claims that a new party would be established under the leadership of Özgür Özel, announcing that he would not leave the CHP. Reiterating his call for a flat increase of at least 10,000 lira for retirees, Gürer said, "I will continue to stay in the CHP, which is one of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk's two legacies, but I will also express the mistakes I see."
CHP Nigde Deputy Omer Fethi Gurer made striking statements regarding both the economic agenda and internal party debates during a press conference held at the Turkish Grand National Assembly. Responding to questions about whether he would join the alleged new party to be established under the leadership of CHP Group Chairman Ozgur Ozel, Gurer said, 'Mustafa Kemal Ataturk left two legacies; one is the Republic, the other is the CHP. I will continue to remain in Ataturk's party.'
"RETIREES MUST RECEIVE AT LEAST 10 THOUSAND LIRA ACROSS-THE-BOARD RAISE"
Starting his press conference at the Parliament by raising the issues of social groups and retirees, Omer Fethi Gurer stated that approximately 17 million retirees in Turkey are struggling to survive. Emphasizing that the increases in pension payments are eroded by high inflation, Gurer said: 'We continually bring up the need for an across-the-board raise of at least 10 thousand lira for all retirees. Currently, retirees are struggling to live on an income below the hunger threshold. Today, a pension does not even cover rent in big cities, and citizens have exhausted their savings.'
"I WILL CONTINUE TO CALL OUT MISTAKES"
Gurer put an end to questions about claims of a new party being formed under the leadership of CHP Group Chairman Ozgur Ozel and whether he would join this structure. Stating that he would remain within the party, the Nigde Deputy emphasized that he would not hesitate to voice his criticisms: 'Mustafa Kemal Ataturk left two legacies; one is the Republic, the other is the Republican People's Party. I will continue to remain in Mustafa Kemal Ataturk's party. However, as long as I stay here, I will express the negatives, mistakes, and deficiencies I see. My fundamental philosophy is to bring the problems of social groups to the Parliament's agenda and to address these issues throughout my tenure as a deputy.'
