Former Minister of Interior and AK Party Istanbul Deputy Süleyman Soylu, who applied to the Presidency of the Parliament for the removal of parliamentary immunity, broke his silence on the matter. Soylu said, "I have never spoken from my stomach, I have written very clearly. This is a clear petition, a clear application. There is no time. I am open to whatever information and documents they come with whenever they want. We did not lose our honor on the road."

Former Minister of Interior and AK Party Istanbul Deputy Süleyman Soylu applied to the Presidency of the Grand National Assembly on Friday, July 26, requesting the removal of parliamentary immunity. In his petition, Soylu stated that he has been involved in politics for 40 years and has held various positions during this time. Soylu emphasized that he has been responsible for serving the people, being accountable, and being transparent in every position he has undertaken. He pointed out that the political institution and politicians occasionally face various allegations and accusations.

"I HAVE FACED SYSTEMATIC SMEARS"

Soylu stated, "Under the roof of our esteemed Parliament, which I am currently honored to be a member of, we are currently facing numerous baseless, completely slanderous, manipulative, and mostly similar allegations produced by internal and external sources that aim to undermine the reputation of our state and target myself and my colleagues with whom I have served during the period when I served as the Minister of Interior." He emphasized that it is his duty to protect the rights and justice of the relentless struggle carried out against terrorist organizations and criminal structures that aimed to disrupt democracy, the survival of the state, national will, and law during the extraordinary period in which he served after the coup attempt by FETÖ on July 15, 2016. In his petition, Soylu described not remaining indifferent to the destructiveness of those who are in partnership and collaboration with criminal structures in the smear and defamation campaigns as an "indispensable responsibility" that is intertwined with loyalty, determination, and sacrifice.

"WE FACED A SMEAR CAMPAIGN"

Soylu stated that it has become necessary to fight against the evil forces that aim to create doubt, suspicion, and question marks in the eyes of the public with their smears and false accusations on a legal basis. He continued his petition as follows: "Since the day we were appointed as the Minister of Interior by our esteemed President, until the end of our term, our nation has witnessed our determination to fight against all criminal networks without any discrimination, including terrorism, illegal immigration, disasters, drugs, and organized crime, in order to ensure the peace, welfare, and highest level of public order, security, and well-being. However, afterwards, we have faced a campaign to undermine and discredit this struggle and to intimidate anyone who will dedicate themselves to this struggle in the future, which is unprecedented in its organized and systematic nature, through completely false, defamatory, and qualified smear content in all written, visual, social media, and all platforms."

HE PROVIDED NUMERICAL DATA

Soylu stated that within one year since he left the Ministry of Interior on June 3, 2023, 11,500 television news, 1,454 newspaper news, 628 columns and articles, and 218,000 internet and social media news containing lies, insults, defamation, and false accusations were made against him. He stated, "Although there is no indictment process regarding any issue in the Turkish Grand National Assembly during our term, the leaders and spokespersons of the Republican People's Party (CHP) have repeatedly stated that I am protected by parliamentary immunity by making baseless smears and false accusations, despite the fact that there is no indictment process regarding any issue in the Turkish Grand National Assembly during our term, and they have deliberately misled the public in this way. Furthermore, the leaders and spokespersons of the CHP have been conducting a simultaneous campaign in front of our nation's eyes, together with the PKK terrorist organization, which has been threatening the indivisible integrity of our country for years and its political unity and consensus in the Parliament, and FETÖ and DHKP-C, by stating that they have not done, cannot do, cannot say, and cannot say anything against them, and even conducting a campaign against the period we served and myself."

SOYLU: I AM OPEN TO ANY INFORMATION AND DOCUMENTS

Süleyman Soylu, former Minister of Interior and AK Party Istanbul Deputy, who spoke for the first time after his application for immunity to the Presidency of the Grand National Assembly, used striking expressions. Speaking to Halk TV, Soylu said, "I have never spoken out of turn, I have written very clearly. This is an open petition, an open application. I don't have time. I mean, I am open to any information and documents they bring whenever they want. We did not lose our honor on the way."
