Application to the Supreme Election Council for 'local elections to be cancelled'

23.05.2026 01:00

After the Ankara Regional Court of Appeals annulled the CHP congress and the Supreme Election Council (YSK) rejected the appeal of Özgür Özel's administration, a party member applied to the YSK requesting the complete annulment of the March 31, 2024 Local Elections, on the grounds that 'the administration determining the candidates is illegitimate'.

The 36th Civil Chamber of the Ankara Regional Court of Justice (BAM) ruled for the precautionary suspension from duty of Özgür Özel and the party administration in the CHP congress case, and for Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu and his administration to take over the duties.

The CHP objected to the decision and applied to the Supreme Election Council (YSK). The YSK held an extraordinary meeting to evaluate the application and reach a decision, announcing that it rejected the CHP's objection.

APPLICATION FROM A CHP MEMBER TO THE YSK FOR "CANCELLATION OF LOCAL ELECTIONS"

Following the decision, it was learned that an application was made to the Supreme Election Council (YSK) requesting the cancellation of the March 31, 2024 Local Administration Elections.

According to information received, after the decision of the 36th Civil Chamber of the Ankara Regional Court of Justice (BAM) regarding the determination that the CHP's 38th Ordinary Congress held on November 4-5, 2023 was invalid due to absolute nullity and its cancellation from the date it was held, a CHP member applied to the YSK.

In the application, it was stated that the cancellation of the March 31, 2024 Local Administration Elections was requested following the congress held on November 4-5, 2023.

The YSK is expected to consider this application during its agenda meeting to be held tomorrow.
