Yuleidy Ixcotoyac, a 15-year-old believed to have died in Guatemala, surprised her family when she moved in the coffin. While crying at the head of the coffin, her mother noticed that her daughter was moving. The girl sat up inside the coffin, and it turned out she was alive.
Yuleidy Ixcotoyac, a 15-year-old believed to have died in Guatemala, stunned her family when she moved about eight hours after being placed in a coffin. Her mother, noticing her daughter moving inside the coffin, was greatly shocked when the young girl opened her eyes and sat up.
The incident occurred in the El Jocote settlement in Guatemala's Quiché region. Yuleidy suddenly lost consciousness in the early hours of the morning of October 10 while being taken to a health center by her father, Abraham Ixcotoyac.
The father, an Evangelical pastor, stopped his vehicle and checked her condition when his daughter worsened. However, the father, stating that he thought his daughter was not breathing and could not feel a pulse in her wrist, believed she had died.
It was stated that the young girl's death was not confirmed by a doctor and no death certificate was issued for her. Nevertheless, the family, thinking their daughter had died, obtained a coffin and began funeral preparations.
Her Mother Saw Her Daughter Move While Crying at the Coffin
Relatives and local residents gathered at around 2:30 p.m. the same day for the funeral held at the family's home. While family members who thought they had lost their daughter were in deep sorrow, the mother, Lesvia Ríos, was also shedding tears at the coffin.
However, the movement the mother noticed as she leaned over the coffin stunned everyone in the house. Lesvia saw her daughter moving inside the coffin. Shortly afterward, Yuleidy opened her eyes and sat up inside the coffin.
The mother, seeing that her daughter was alive, described her shock to the local press.
Lesvia Ríos, stating that she thought her daughter had not died, said the following:
"I kept saying my daughter was alive. She had not died. While I was leaning over her coffin and crying, we opened the coffin lid. She was moving, she was coming to, and suddenly she sat up."
Family members and relatives present at the house for the funeral were greatly astonished when they saw the young girl move. Yuleidy was given water while she was also helped out of the coffin. Footage of those moments was recorded and shared on social media.
Young Girl Said She Felt Severe Pain Before Fainting
Recounting what she experienced, Yuleidy said she felt severe pain in her heart and a heavy pressure in her chest before losing consciousness.
The young girl stated that the pain gradually increased and that she lost consciousness shortly afterward.
Yuleidy described what she experienced in these words:
"My heart began to hurt very severely. I felt as if it had become heavy. Then I felt as if I was going to faint, and I lost consciousness."
After the incident, the young girl expressed her gratitude, saying she did not know how to thank God for everything in her life. Yuleidy regarded what happened to her as a miracle.
Her Father Explained That His Daughter Was Not Examined by a Doctor
Yuleidy's father, Abraham Ixcotoyac, also described how the incident unfolded. He said his daughter suddenly worsened in the vehicle, so he stopped the vehicle and checked on her.
The father, stating that he thought his daughter was not breathing and could not feel a pulse in her wrist, expressed his helplessness in these words:
"I pulled my vehicle over, stopped, and went to my daughter. When I looked at her condition, I thought she had died. She was no longer breathing and I could not feel her pulse in her wrists. It was a very difficult situation for me. She did not go to the hospital."
According to the father's account, Yuleidy was not taken to any health facility and was not examined by a doctor. The family began funeral preparations because they believed their daughter had died.
However, the young girl's movement during the funeral turned the family's deep sorrow into great astonishment.
Medical Cause of Incident Not Yet Explained
With Yuleidy moving and sitting up inside the coffin, the atmosphere in the house changed. Family members who saw that their daughter was alive and those attending the funeral were greatly astonished. The family regarded what happened as divine intervention.
It was reported that the young girl was conscious and continuing her recovery at home. However, Yuleidy stated that her hands were still trembling after the incident.
Meanwhile, no detailed medical explanation has yet been made as to why the young girl lost consciousness and how her death was assumed. The fact that Yuleidy, who was thought to have died without being examined by a doctor, moved inside the coffin hours later raised questions about the circumstances of the incident.
