While tensions in the region remain high due to increasing security risks in the Red Sea and Houthi attacks, Ankara is preparing to host an important diplomatic contact. Yemen’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Yemenis Abroad, Afrah Abdulaziz Al-Zuba, will pay an official visit to Turkey. In a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it was announced that the visit, which is of critical importance for regional stability and the course of conflicts, will take place on October 24.
While Houthi attacks in Yemen, the security crisis in the country, and threats to maritime transport in the Red Sea remain on the agenda, Yemen's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Afrah Abdulaziz Al-Zuba is coming to Turkey. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that Al-Zuba will visit Turkey on October 24, 2026.
YEMEN AND REGIONAL SECURITY ARE ON THE AGENDA
Houthi attacks in Yemen are on the international community's agenda, particularly due to the clashes in the Taiz region and threats to civilian infrastructure. The Yemeni government argues that the Houthis' activities affect the country's security and stability as well as regional balances.
In his previous statements, Yemeni Foreign Minister Al-Zuba drew attention to the fact that Houthi attacks pose a threat to maritime transport in the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandab Strait as well as to international trade.
TURKEY-YEMEN RELATIONS ON THE TABLE
While Turkey states that it supports Yemen's unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, it also attaches importance to efforts to re-establish security and stability in the country. Strengthening diplomatic coordination and developing cooperation between the two countries are also among the prominent topics.
Details regarding which topics will be discussed during Al-Zuba's visit to Turkey have not yet been announced. The visit is expected to provide a basis for diplomatic contacts regarding recent developments in Yemen and regional security issues.
TENSION RISES IN HOUTHI ATTACKS
Clashes between the Houthis and the internationally recognized government forces in Yemen have intensified again since September 2026. The Houthis' attempts to make advances along the Red Sea coast and around the strategic Bab al-Mandab Strait have increased security concerns in the region.
In recent days, the attacks have also spread to Saudi Arabia. Missile and unmanned aerial vehicle attacks by the Houthis targeting airports and energy facilities have raised concerns regarding regional security and international transport. The United Nations Security Council also condemned the Houthis' attacks on civilian infrastructure and commercial vessels and called for an end to military escalation.
One of the most severe consequences of the clashes was seen in the attack on a training camp belonging to security forces in Shabwa Governorate on October 19. According to a statement by Yemeni officials, at least 73 people lost their lives and more than 200 people were injured in the attack carried out with ballistic missiles. The Houthis claimed responsibility for the attack, while asserting that the targeted camp was operated by Saudi forces.
As the deepening clashes in Yemen and security risks in the Red Sea continue, Yemeni Foreign Minister Afrah Abdulaziz Al-Zuba's visit to Turkey is significant in terms of diplomatic contacts between Ankara and Sanaa.
