At Least 100 Pro-Palestinian Protesters Arrested Near US Senator Schumer's Home

24.04.2024 09:27

Protest organized by Jewish Voice for Peace was held during Jewish Passover holiday to demand cessation of aid to Israel.

At least 100 pro-Palestinian protesters were reportedly arrested near Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer's home in Brooklyn, New York, on Tuesday evening during a protest against an aid package that would provide $26 billion to Israel.

The protest, organized by Jewish Voice for Peace, was held during the Jewish Passover holiday, to demand a cessation of aid to Israel after the US Senate approved a long-awaited $95 billion foreign aid package, including $26.6 billion for Israel.

The group said in its X account that they blocked traffic at Schumer's doorstep to "demand the US stop arming and funding the Israeli government as it carries out a genocide."

The group said New York police arrested hundreds of protesters while some US outlets reported that at least 100 protesters were arrested.

Stefanie Fox, executive director of Jewish Voice for Peace, said in an interview that the protest was held during Passover in order to send a message to Schumer as the Senate passed the $95 billion aid package for Israel, Ukraine and Taiwan.

"Everything in our tradition compels us to bring everything we have to stopping these historic atrocities being done in our names and with our tax dollars," Fox said. -
